Spring 2008 Conway Tennis League CLICK HERE for Conway Tennis League Spring 2008 roster, schedule, guidelines, and scores/standings. Registration Instructions Step 1: Register online at Global Tennis Network. Click on the Register link on the top right hand side of the page. Be sure to choose your playing level properly - it will determine which division(s) you are eligible to play in. If you need help deciding, email one of the league coordinators PRIOR to signing up. To help your opponents recognize you on court, please upload a recent face picture of yourself when you register. That also helps league administrators to recognize you when we see you on the courts. You can customize your player info as much or as little as you like. Also be sure to specify your t-shirt size - we'll use that at the end of season to order your shirt.
Step 2: Register for 1 or 2 divisions (singles, doubles, and/or mixed) - Login to Global Tennis Network, click on Tennis Ladders and Tournaments, and click on Find a Tennis Ladder. Or, just click here to go directly to the ladder search page. Click on Arkansas, then Conway, then select from the list. All of the League division names begin with CTL 2008. Add yourself to the desired division by clicking on it, then scroll down and click the red Sign up link on the middle left of the page, then click OK to confirm your entry. If you prefer, you can initially sign up for 1 division (e.g singles) and later sign up for a 2nd division (e.g. doubles, after you find a partner). Step 3: Pay for the number of PEOPLE you wish to enter in the league - click Add to Cart, then update the quantity in the box to reflect that number, click on Update Cart, then click on Proceed to checkout. If you don't have a paypal account, just click on the Continue link on the lower left. If you have a paypal account, you can login to it via the email/password on the right. Enter your information and follow the instructions on the site. The cost is $20 per person, flat fee, which covers you to play in 1 or 2 divisions. To get started, you only have to pay your entry and sign up in one division. You can enter a 2nd division later, after the initial sign-up. Conway Tennis League 2008 Entry payment via PayPal Step 4: IMPORTANT: Send an email to Mike Horton to tell us the name(s) whose entry fee you have paid, contact details (email/phone), and t-shirt size (XS/S/M/L/XL/XXL). For example, if you've paid to enter yourself and your husband, provide all information for both of you in the email. Be sure to specify your name and/or email exactly the same way that you specified on PayPal, so we can easily cross-check the payment. Step 5: You're all set - once we've verified your payment, everyone you paid for will be activated on the particular GlobalTennisNetwork division(s) they have entered. Once the start date is reached for your division, you'll then be able to start issuing challenges, playing matches, and recording scores via the site. Refer to the League Guidelines section at the bottom of this page for detailed instructions on how the league operates. What is it ? Each spring and fall, CATA runs a tennis program known as the Conway Tennis League (CTL). In the past it has been known as the Acxiom Tennis League and/or the Corporate Tennis League. The typical duration is 8-10 weeks, with t-shirts and trophies awarded at an awards dinner to conclude each season. Participants are placed into divisions based on skill level, and there are divisions for men's and women's singles and doubles and mixed doubles, of varying skill level, based on number of entrants. The usual format is to play a round robin schedule within each division, with each person playing against every other person, 1 match per week over the 8-10 weeks. We are now in our 5th year of providing league tennis to Conway players. Unlike some Little Rock leagues where there is a dedicated night each week to play and a dedicated facility to play at (e.g. Burns Park or Rebsamen or LRAC), we offer more flexibility. That allows people with busy work and family schedules to still fit in some tennis each week, at their and their opponents' convenience. But that means you and your opponent must work out the details of when/where you play your scheduled match for the week. In the last 3 or 4 league seasons, we've had upwards to 100 participants in each season! You want tennis ? You've found it right here, look no further. Where is it ? There is no set time or place each week to play a match. The usual places to play in Conway are the UCA courts, Hendrix courts (indoor and outdoor), Laurel Park, and Gatlin Park. But, you and your opponent could agree to play in LR or in Morrilton, it's completely up to you to arrange where and when to play. When is it ? The timeframe is usually mid-May to late-July for the Spring CTL, and mid-September to mid-November for the Fall CTL. Primarily those timeframes are chosen to fit in well with the USTA team tennis schedule. Why is it ? Frankly, because we love tennis! Tennis has a social fun aspect, competitive aspect, and a health benefit, and we want to see tennis continue to grow and thrive in Conway. We want as many people as possible to be playing this wonderful game as much as possible. What's new for 2008 ? Sometimes when you've done the same thing the same way over and over, year after year, it can become a little stagnant. In the spirit of innovation and simplifying life for the league coordinators, and making the league an even better experience for everyone, we are going to automate some things that have been done manually in the past, and offer a new format in addition to the traditional round-robin. We will now be accepting league payments onine via PayPal to greatly simplify the fee collection. We will use a free online league-management site, Global Tennis Network, to track all scores and standings, and to issue challenges to opponents in each division each week. We also are simplifying the fee structure - to participate in the league, there will be a flat fee of $20 which covers you to enter 1 or 2 divisions. We will not charge extra for the 2nd division or extra if you're not a USTA member. That should make the league simpler to manage and better for everyone. We also think it will encourage more people to play a 2nd division, who would otherwise just play one division. We also will be trying a new format this year, namely a challenge-based ladder system, in addition to the traditional round-robin format. If a majority of participants in a division want to play the round-robin single match per week format, no problem. But if they want to play a challenge-based ladder format where they are jockeying for position each week, and playing as much (or as little) as they want to, then that's fine as well. With the ladder system, you could play 2-3 times per week provided the opponents you challenge are available to play. Winners in the round-robin format are strictly based on match win-loss record. In the ladder system, you'll get a varying number of points for every match you play, win or lose. Whoever has the most points in a division at the end of the league season is the winner of that division. One other change we are making is to play out a full 3rd set, as opposed to the 10-point super-tiebreaker that is common throughout Arkansas tennis. The website we use to manage the league only supports a full 3rd set at this time. | |
