League Format
The league is made up of singles, doubles and
mixed doubles divisions based on level of play. Every effort is made
to put people in the correct division based on ability, but sometimes
we have to group players from 2 different levels in one division.
Your name is listed with a player # in each
division you entered (see link above for division rosters). Your
player number determines who you play each week. If a division has
an odd number of players, an extra player named "BYE" will be listed
at the end to make the number even for scheduling purposes. When you
are scheduled to play "BYE", you have the week off.
This is an 8-10 week league (7-9 weeks for
scheduled matches and 1 make-up week). If you have 8 or 10 players in your
division, you will play everyone once. If you have 4 players in your
division you will play everyone twice. If your division has 6
players, you will play everyone at least once and some more than
once, based on the schedule. However, the league winner will
only be based on matches listed in black in the schedule.
Matches in red are optional and do not
count towards the league winner (they are for fun!). This
ensures that everyone played each other person the same number of
times.
Example: You are player #4 in your division
during the week beginning June 9th, so your opponent for that week
will be whoever is listed as player #3 in your division.
If there are more than 8 or 10 players at a certain
level, we will usually split it into 2 or more divisions, depending
on the number of players. If that happens, the top finishers
in each split division will play each other at the end of the season
in a playoff to determine overall winners at that level.
NOTE: WE WILL NOT BE USING THE CHALLENGE-BASED
LADDER SYSTEM IN ANY DIVISION THIS TIME AROUND. TO DETERMINE WHO YOU PLAY EACH
WEEK IN EACH DIVISION, CLICK ON THE ROSTER PDF AND MATCH SCHEDULE LINK AS POSTED ABOVE.

Your Responsibilities
- Make every effort to play your
match during the scheduled week - that keeps things running
smoothly
- Be proactive in contacting your
opponent to schedule your match - don't wait for them to
call/email you
- Some people may not check email
frequently, so you might need to call them to schedule a match
- Attempt to contact your next
week's opponent during the current week to arrange the match
time/place
- Matches can be played at any
time/place that you and your opponent agree to
- If you know you will be out of
town, let your opponent know ASAP so you can arrange a make-up
- Each player/team should bring a
new unopened can of tennis balls to each match - open one can
to play with, and the match winner keeps the unopened can and the
non-winner keeps the used can
- Familiarize yourself with the
tennis rules and etiquette - check
www.usta.com for more details
- Be cordial and fair to your
opponent - we want this league to be a fun experience for all
participants
- Winner of each match should
promptly post match scores on
Global Tennis Network
- If by the end of the league season
you were unable to play a league match and your opponent was
available to play, give him/her a forfeit and report that to the
league coordinators
- Give first preference to playing
your scheduled opponent for that particular week - make-up matches
should not take priority over your scheduled matches
- Contact the league coordinators if
you have any problems, questions, suggestions, etc.
Match Scores
Match scoring is the best 2 out of 3 sets
with standard Ad scoring, and 7-point tiebreak game if the set is tied
6-all. If you split the 1st 2 sets, a full 3rd set is played to determine
the winner. This differs from past leagues where we played a 10-point super-
tiebreak.
All scores are recorded on
Global Tennis Network
- login using your username/password, click on the appropriate division,
click on Report Score, then select your name and opponent's name
(your name + partner name, and opposing team's names) from the drop down
boxes, select your set scores, and the date, and click Submit to
submit the score.
NOTE: For divisions that are split into 2 groups in the roster/schedule,
you'll all be part of a single division on Global Tennis Network. Just play
your matches based on the roster/schedule, and submit scores based on who you play,
and everything will work smoothly.
Determining League Winner In Case
Of Ties
There are a number of ways to break a tie
when determining a winner in league play for people who are tied
for 1st or 2nd place with the same win-loss record. Here is how we
will do it:
If two people tie for first or second based
on their match wins-losses, then whoever won the match between
them will be the winner. This is known as "head-to-head". If there
is a three way tie, the person who lost the fewest sets will be
the winner. A third set tiebreaker counts as a set. If two people
remain, the winner will be the person who won the match between
them. If there are three people remaining, the winner will be the
one who lost the fewest games. Again, if there is a tie between
two, the winner will be the one who won the match between them. If
there is still a three way tie we will improvise!
Prizes and T-shirts and
League Banquet
Prizes (e.g.
trophies) will be awarded to the top two players
in each division. Everyone will receive a complimentary
league t-shirt (1 per person). Other special prizes and
awards may be awarded at the discretion of the CATA. We
have an end-of-league awards dinner at a local restaurant - TBD.
